AI + Radar Sensors Cut Streetlight Energy Use by 48% in Chongqing Dadukou

2026-10-21 · Industry News

According to a People's Daily report on October 10, Chongqing's Dadukou district has completed an intelligent streetlight retrofit. The project, built and funded by a local smart-infrastructure company, combines an AI agent with radar sensing, achieving an overall energy-saving rate above 48% and keeping lamp availability at 98%+.

Unlike earlier programs that simply swapped high-pressure sodium lamps for LEDs, this retrofit is not about the luminaire itself — it builds a closed "sense-decide-act" loop. Radar sensors detect pedestrians and traffic in real time, and the AI agent dynamically adjusts brightness and switching sequences based on actual flow. Quiet streets after midnight drop to energy-saving mode, returning to full brightness as cars approach.

Two takeaways for LED manufacturers: municipal and campus streetlight budgets are shifting from "buying lamps" to "buying systems," where the fixture is only the execution endpoint; and LED luminaires with radar, dimming interfaces and unified-platform connectivity will win more project orders than bare lamps. KINXZO already reserves 0-10V and DALI dimming options on its commercial downlight and track-light lines, and will extend the same smart-control options to its outdoor streetlight range.
